Welcome again to Socialism on the Ballot, folks. Today’s update is an off-the-cuff and more brief one than usual, but is just as important as any other update: we’re going to be recapping last night’s results (August 9th)—and diving into a few races more deeply and whether my analysis for them was correct.
Thank you for writing up both what we can expect, and your own evaluations of your predictions. This is great! Is there anything in particular we should be looking out for in the West?
if by "out west" you mean races on the west coast this year, there are a few california races to watch in november, yeah. by significance of office, the two biggest are Corey Jackson in AD-60 and Fatima Iqbal-Zubair in AD-65. the former *should* be the 2nd DSA member in the state assembly if the primary was anything to go by; the latter is mostly just looking to make this rematch a respectable loss imo.
besides them, there's Hugo Soto-Martinez's likely november victory in Los Angeles City Council D13; he'd be the 3rd DSA member on that body and unseat an incumbent. up in the Bay Area, there's also a three-person slate of Eduardo Martinez for Mayor of Richmond, Jamin Pursell for Richmond City Council D4, and (incumbent) Nikki Fortunato-Bas for Oakland City Council D2 being run by East Bay DSA. these are all historically strong areas for them, so i'm looking for a sweep there.
